Business Acumen and Grant Writing
 Regional Training

2017 Fall
 Regional Training

The Association on Aging in New York encourages you to attend the Fall 2017 “Enhancing Your Business Acumen and Grant Writing Skills” Regional Training Program. Not only will you learn skills for your business acumen toolkit, but you will also learn also how to apply them in multiple ways: positioning your agency in new partnerships and collaborations, grant writing and fund raising.

Specific content includes: a review of the principles of business, leveraging resources, creating logic models and selecting the key decision makers when approaching potential new partners. The grant writing and fund raising components will focus on how these business acumen skills are used in these two important areas, with an emphasis on creating goals and objectives, needs assessments and work plans. Interactive activities will provide real life practice in these skills. Fund raising content will focus on general fund raising planning, using business principles.

Learning Objectives:
  • To understand what business acumen is, the basic principles of business acumen and why these principles are critically important to the future of area agencies on aging and the network of aging services professionals.

  • To be able to apply business acumen principles to help form new partnerships with other services and systems, including health and LTSS providers.

  • To take home some basic fund raising techniques and ideas to add to your business acumen toolbox.

  • To learn some fundamental concepts of effective grant planning and grant writing for AAAs and community partners.

  • To be able to apply business acumen principles in grant writing and fund raising.
