2016 NY Connects/ NWD Regional Trainings

2016 NY Connect
s/NWD Regional Training

Through the federal Balancing Incentive Program (BIP), NY Connects has expanded its geographic reach and enhanced its functionality to provide information and assistance (I&A) and options counseling/person-centered counseling (OC/PCC) on long term services and supports (LTSS) to individuals of all ages across the state.

As part of these efforts and to ensure continuous quality improvement, NYSOFA, in collaboration with Aging NY, is organizing nine regional trainings that will focus on skills-based learning and program updates relative to BIP implementation.  These trainings will be mandatory for Area Agency on Aging (AAA)/NY Connects staff, as well as any subcontractors, who are providing NY Connects I&A and conducting the NWD Screen.  Participation from staff representing partner agencies including LDSS, OPWDD, OMH, and ILCs will be strongly encouraged, however seating will be limited for non-mandatory participants.

The preliminary agenda for the trainings includes the delivery of an updated I&A module, provided by the Center for Excellence in Aging and Community Wellness, that will incorporate OC/PCC and offer a skills-based methodology that enables staff to participate in an interactive format.  Further, a workshop will be offered that focuses on building collaborative relationships at the local level among NWD partner agencies.  Lastly, there will be a closing session led by NYSOFA and DOH staff that will provide information and updates on pertinent topics related to the NWD systems change.

We request you inform us of any special arrangements necessary to accommodate you that would fall under the American Disabilities Act.
