Pres. Signs Bill, Giving Final Word on Fiscal Year 2014 Spending for #OAA

January 14, 2014 -- Pres. Obama signed into law H.R. 3547, a spending bill containing several items that
fund senior housing and home and community-based services under the Older Americans Act through the remainder of fiscal 2014.

Called an "omnibus package, the legislation provides a 2.6% increase in discretionary spending levels over fiscal 2013, restoring some of the senior housing and services program funding cuts that resulted from the sequestration.

It was not enough to restore all of the spending to 2012's higher levels of funding. Title III C nutrition programs received a boost. Most programs were funded at 2013's post-sequester levels: Title III B Supportive Services, Title III D Preventive Health, Title III E National Family Caregiver Support Program, both the Title VI Native American line items, and Title VII Elder Abuse and LTC Ombudsman programs.

A few programs saw slight increased over 2013: Title V Senior Community Services Employment Program, Aging and Disability Resource Centers, Elder Rights Support Activities Lifespan Respite and the  Senior Medicare Patrol.
