Disability Training Coordinator Part-Time Position Description
Job Summary:
The Association on Aging in New York is hiring for a Disability Training Coordinator position to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or caregivers with finding appropriate supports and services to support independence within the community. This position entails resolving complex issues surrounding eligibility for services through multiple funding streams, provision of technical assistance to Area Agencies on Aging to increase their ability to serve those with I/DD and caregivers, and assistance with development and dissemination of training materials.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate information, referral and technical assistance to people with IDD and their family members regarding appropriate services and supports which may be available.
- Work collaboratively with various governmental and not for profit partners to assist the client with accessing appropriate services and supports.
- Provide training, technical assistance and support to AAAs participating in the pilot project.
- Advocate on behalf of the client with a third party including, but not limited to, OPWDD, AAAs, other governmental agencies and not for profit service providers.
- Identify current issues that negatively impact New Yorkers with IDD and lead efforts at the state and local levels that improve outcomes for New Yorkers with IDD.
- Assist in developing resources, fact sheets, toolkits, and other educational and advocacy materials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as to successfully network with multiple agency partners.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor degree and 1 year experience working with the IDD/aging population
- Associates degree and 3+ years working with IDD/aging population
