May 2022 - Engaging Robots Roll Out in New York
A partnership between the New York State Office for the Aging and the Association on Aging in New York is enabling the rollout of 800 ElliQ artificial intelligence robot companions across New York. The ElliQ is a product of Intuition Robotics, and is often compared to Amazon's Alexa product. However, the ElliQ is meant to be more engaging by responding to voice and body movements, and prompting the user. This heightened engagement is especially attractive as a way to combat social isolation and promote healthful activities among New York's older adults, especially those who live alone.

April 2022 - AgingNY Partners with NYSDEC to Offer Virtual Fora on Accessiblilty and the Outdoors
AAAs can encourage older adults to participate in the community and engage in physical activity to maintain good health and habits, but these encouragements can sound hollow if opportunities to get outdoors are not very accessible. Fortunately, there are many people, including staff at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Adirondack Park Agency's Accessibility Advisory Council, who are working to make sure we increase the number of accessible outdoors experiences.
To promote conversation about making the outdoors accessible and sustainable, the NYSDEC and partners are offering a two-parts series of Virtual Public Forums on Inclusivity, Accessibility, and Sustainability in the Outdoors. For more information and registration, visit the DEC's web page for this series taking place on May 10th and 17th.
